Saxophone Rental FAQ

What Does a Saxophone Rental Involve?

Renting a saxophone is a practical option for beginners and students. It allows new players to explore the instrument without a significant upfront investment. Our saxophone rental program includes maintenance and repair services, ensuring the instrument remains in good condition. This flexibility makes renting an attractive choice for those just starting or deciding whether to commit to playing the saxophone long-term.

What is the Cost of a Saxophone?

The cost of a beginner saxophone varies widely based on whether it is an alto or tenor saxophone. More and more instrument-shaped objects (called ISOs) are being sold online for unrealistically low prices. While the price might seem attractive, they won't play in tune, can't be repaired, and, most importantly, discourage beginners from practicing hard and don't understand why they aren't improving. Because of this, the dropout rate of students with ISOs is extremely high. Reputable beginner alto saxophones generally range from $2,000 to $3,000, and beginner tenor saxophones range from $2,500 to $3,500.

What are the Different Types of Saxophones?

Invented by Adolphe Sax in the mid-1800s, saxophones are relatively new compared to other instruments in the band. While technically there are nine different kinds of saxophone, the four most common are the soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones. While all types are played the same and with the same fingerings, each type of saxophone offers a unique playing experience.

What Should I Look for in a Beginner Saxophone?

Most musicians begin by learning the alto saxophone, but some band directors let their students start on the tenor saxophone if that's what the player prefers. A beginner saxophone should be easy to play, durable, in tune, and good working order. Look for models designed specifically for students, typically featuring simpler key mechanisms and robust construction. Beginner saxophones often come with essential accessories like a case and mouthpiece to help new players get started.

What is Rent-to-Own?

Rent-to-own saxophone programs offer a flexible option for those who want to start with a rental but are considering long-term ownership. Our program allows rental payments to be applied toward the instrument's purchase price. This arrangement is ideal for players who want to invest in a quality saxophone over time while managing their budget. Rent-to-own options provide a pathway to eventual ownership with the convenience of initial rental flexibility.
