This book uses an Orff approach in incorporating storytelling, drama, song, movement, and instrumental play (non-pitched percussion) to the lessons. There are detailed lesson plans and seqential lessons, each beginning with an introduction to the composer and reproducible composer images, biographies, music maps, and activity pages.
The music maps provide a visual arrangement of the music. The pupose of the maps is to place the music in a structured, organized format so children have a better understanding of its sequence.
The included CD has fun lyrics that encourage children to sing along and can assist parents as they help their children follow the music maps. The orchestral arrangement immediately follows.
On the DVD, the lessons taped were a condensed version of the Teacher's Guide instructed to non-auditioned students in one 50-minute class. Real students in a real setting! The DVD demonstrates the teaching process and the key teaching strategies, as well as the final outcomes of each piece.
Fun with Composers may be implemented in whole or in part and may be adapted to reflect the teacher's own style. Even a teacher with little or no music background should be able to teach with this guide successfully.
Purchase of this book includes access to free online digital versions of the book and all the tracks on both the CD and DVD, which will make virtual teaching/learning a breeze!
