Description
Recorders with Orff Ensemble Book III Music for Children series Supplement By Isabel McNeill Carley Book 53 pages This book and Books I and II are designed to fill a need for a repertoire (pentatonic and diatonic) for beginning and intermediate recorder players, both musically demanding and rewarding, sequentially arranged, and parallel to the basic progression of the American Orff-Schulwerk series. Most of the pieces are intended to be both played and danced, and simple accompaniments for various combinations of Orff instruments (with cello and guitar) are provided. The pieces are arranged roughly according to difficulty in both sections of the book. Since there are always a few students who need a challenge ahead of the rest of the class, some pieces include sections for soloists or small groups, A few pieces are assigned to only 2 or 3 of the more capable students. The difficulties in all these pieces are rhythmic, and the author says they must be solved through movement. The teacher should isolate the rhythmic problems whenever they arise and find ways of solving them through preliminary rhythmic exercises (echo-play, accompanying body rhythm patterns, physical movement to the melody, etc.) so that when the children come to read the pieces the problems will have disappeared and they can enjoy playing them with a minimum of drill. These books will work well with Carley's Recorder and Improvisation series. Contents:Part I: PentatonicsFanfare, Folk Dance, Dance, Turnabout, Dance for Two, Rondino, Come Follow Part II: Diatonics Spring Dance, Michael's March, Festival, Carousel, The Solitary Shepherd, Macedonian Dance, Odd and Even, Dancing in the Snow, Winter Song, Andante, Song for Three, Gigue, Spring Rain, Procession, Solemn Dance, Balkan Rondo
