Nine-In-One: Grr! Grr!

This colorfully illustrated Laotian folktales follows the first tiger on her journey to seek advice from the powerful god, Shao. The tiger is promised nine cubs each year if she remembers the refrain "Nine-in-one, Grr! Grr!". One clever Eu bird wishes a more favorable tiger-to-bird ratio and decides to trick the tiger.

This imaginative folktale provides a rare window into the lore of the Hmong people of Laos. The colorful illustrations are modeled after the appliqued story cloths of the Hmong.
