"My Singing Bird"is a collection of 150 folk songs from the Anglo-American, African-American, English, Scottish and Irish Traditions selected by staff at The Kodaly Center of America. This is a follow-up to 150 American Folk Songs (item 804065, available separately). In contrast to Sail Away (item 814349, available separately), there are no Hispanic or other songs of many other ethnic groups. Songs include many ballads of a historical nature, work and play songs, cowboy and songs of the developing West, animal songs and some spirituals. About 1/5 of the songs have a game or a dance. Dances are for grades 4-6. Some songs are appropriate for high school. Melodies have metronome markings and tone sets. Three-note songs lead to pentatonic songs, which lead to diatonic melodies.
