150 American Folk Songs to Sing, Read and Play, Edited by Peter Erdei and collected primarily by Katalin Komlos is an essential collection for Kodaly music educators. All songs have been transposed to end on G for comparing melodic elements - this is not an indication of where to pitch them when they are sung. A comfortable starting pitch is indicated at the top of the song. No instrumental accompaniments - melody and lyrics only. Songs are divided into 2 groups - pentatonic scale and diatonic scale. They are grouped according to range, number of pitches used, and rhythmic difficulty. A table of songs shows the solfa syllables, range, meter and if there is a described game included.
