Description
Editor Louise Pascale was a Peace Corps volunteer in Afghanistan in the 1960s. After discovering that elementary schools there did not have any music books, she and an Afghan musician, a Pashtu poet and an elementary teacher, collected children's songs and put together a small songbook. She took this songbook to the schools, taught the songs, and had the children make illustrations for the songs (which are shown in the book's introduction). With the publication of this collection of Afghan children's songs over 10,000 copies of the songbook and recordings are now in elementary schools across Afghanistan. This special English edition contains the English translation and transliteration for each song, informative liner notes, map, and an accompanying CD with Canadian-Afghan children singing the songs.
