Grades 4 - 8
Ten songs for children's voices, recorders, and Orff ensemble, designed to take children on a journey that starts with the troubadours of medieval France and culminates with settings of texts by 20th-century poets Eleanor Farjeon and Sara Teasdale. The arrangements are disigned to move successfully from the classroom into a performance situation.
These "airs old and new for voices and instruments" were chosen to introduce children to Art music, not only as listeners, but as performers. The material represents four countries, four modes, and encompasses eight centuries.
