Hancher is a multidisciplinary performing arts presenter committed to connecting artists and audiences with transformational artistic experiences. For 45 years, Hancher has been the cultural hub of the University of Iowa campus—presenting world-class dance, music, and theater. Along the way, Hancher has extended its reach far beyond campus, engaging thousands of Iowans each year, on campus, throughout the community, and across the state. Hancher is one of the leading university presenters of the performing arts in the nation and has earned an international reputation for excellence.
Iowa Public Radio was created in 2004 by the Iowa Board of Regents to manage the radio groups of Iowa State University, University of Iowa and University of Northern Iowa. This statewide public radio network (a total of 26 stations) now serves 250,000 listeners with three programming streams: News, News/Studio One and Classical. IPR’s combined radio groups serve rural and urban Iowa, touching all of Iowa’s 99 counties.
Our history is long and proud: Iowa State University and University of Iowa each have public radio stations that are nearly a century old, with FCC licenses that were among the first 100 radio licenses ever granted, and our statewide network is one that other states look to as a model. This century of service to and for Iowans is the foundation for our future.
KCCK-FM is a public radio station licensed to Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids-Iowa City, Iowa. KCCK is Iowa’s only jazz radio station. KCCK-FM broadcasts in HD.
Music has always been a way for humanity to cope in both times of tragedy and to celebrate in times of great joy. Music has propelled protest movements, raised funds for the unfortunate, and brought people together throughout history. Sadly, we are now in the midst of an unprecedented event, where the spread of COVID-19 has seemed to slow down or even stop our whole country, if not the whole world. Even though we are now practicing social separation, it is more important than ever to come together, and that’s what we are trying to do with the Iowa Virtual Band.
The Iowa Virtual Band was largely inspired by the work of Eric Whitacre and his multiple successful virtual choirs. Taking a hint from Whitacre himself, we are planning on using the same basic principles and apply it to band. While the idea was largely inspired to be a resource for band directors and their students who have been displaced by the pandemic, any and all who have an instrument and want to play are welcome to submit a recording.
Summer of the Arts brings people together to experience the arts, out loud, in the heart of Iowa City. Since 2005, Summer of the Arts has hosted summertime, family-friendly, arts and cultural festivals. We create synergy with marketing, fundraising, and operations while maintaining the unique identity of each of our five events. Our generous sponsors and donors ensure we are able to offer free, family-friendly, high quality entertainment every summer for our community to enjoy.
West Music partners with the Iowa Heartlanders, Coralville’s professional hockey team, to bring music to our community through game-day experiences and local events. This collaboration celebrates music and sports, enhancing fan engagement and supporting Eastern Iowa’s vibrant cultural scene.
