Eight Add-A-Note Songs
By Don Muro
Score
8 more "add-a-note" pieces for beginning soprano recorder. Student score only.
Contents:
- Leapin' Lizard (uses B) - an up-tempo piece written to create excitement; chord progression based on Jumpin' Jack Flash by the Rolling Stones.
- The Clock and the Moon (uses B & A) - slower, quieter piece which uses drum sounds sparingly; attempts to depict the moon shining on a grandfather clock on a cold, clear winter night - high-pitched synthesizer sounds suggest icicles hanging from the roofs of houses.
- The Secret Stairway (uses B, A, G) - begins quietly and suddenly becomes louder; chord progression in the A section of the piece is based on Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin.
- Going Home (uses B, A, G, E) - attempts to suggest an "old West" atmosphere through use of accordion;and honky-tonk piano sounds; 16th-note pattern played on a snare drum with brushes suggests a locomotive train going home. ,
- Shake It Up (uses B, A, G, E, D) - early 70's rock band sound.
- Sanctuary (uses B, A, G, E, D, C) - sounds of tuned bells, koto, gongs and voices combine to create a meditative piece with an Eastern sound.
- Island Dance (uses B, A, G, E, D, C, high D) - the first half of the piece features darker tone colors such as electric piano, bass and tom-toms; the second half gets brighter through the addition of a variety of percussion instruments.
- Every Day of the Year (uses B, A, G, E, D, C, high D, F#) - a subdued waltz, with optional lyrics.
