Boom 'n' Tunes Just for Fun

Students in grades 1 - 5 will enjoy this collection of 11 simple arrangements for use with Boomwhackers tuned percussion tubes (five original songs, five familiar songs, and one speech piece).

Begin with simple, on-the-beat Boomwhackers and progress to diatonic songs using chords I, IV, and V. There are also flexible warm-ups and note- and rhythm-reading exercises.

Each piece lists the following information:

• the suggested grade levels
• tubes needed
• related CD tracks
• teaching tips
• an "Expand It!" section
• a reproducible student page including lyrics
• a full score showing melody, lyrics, Boomwhacker, and unpitched percussion parts (full scores may not be reproduced)

The Expand It ideas include movement suggestions, adding small percussion instruments to the songs, drama ideas, or activities to teach other musical concepts. The included CD has two accompaniments for most songs: one at a slower practice tempo, the other at a quicker performance tempo, each with a unique style and character.

Boomwhackers needed (Boomwhacker and Octavator sets are each available separately):

• chromatic set
• bass diatonic set
• An alternative to the bass set is to use 2 diatonic sets with one set being lowered an octave with Octavator tube caps.
