Encore! Peformance Pieces with Music for Children
By Jeff Kriske and Randy DeLelles
Book
37 pages
A collection of 15 performance pieces for upper grade ensembles, sampling folk songs from a wide range of countries and cultures. Most include orchestrations for Orff instruments and many have parts for soprano or alto recorder. These are not brand new pieces, but they are arrangements developed and performed with the authors' students over the last several years. Many have been shared at Saturday workshops, national conferences and during the UNLV summer course.
The collection is loosely organized into 2 sections: first, pieces appropriate for performance throughout the year and second, holiday arrangements suitable for a December performance. Teaching tips to prepare the music, suggested form and general translations of foreign text are provided, as well as background information about the music (when available). The text for Toraji is shown phonetically, but pronunciation is not given for other foreign language lyrics. Many of the arrangements incorporate movement.
Instruments used: soprano and alto glockenspiel; soprano, alto and bass xylophone; soprano, alto and bass metallophone; contra bass bars; soprano and alto recorder; crow call (or kazoo); cowbell; gankogui; finger cymbals; triangle; tambourine; wind chimes; pod rattles; guiro; claves; log drum; temple blocks; crow call (or kazoo); congas; bongos.
