First, We Sing! Songbook 1

This collection of 20 children's songs, rhymes, and games from around the world has been selected, transcribed, and annotated by Dr. Susan Brumfield. First, We Sing! will provide fresh ideas for any music class. This is the first volume in a series designed to bring delightful, singable songs and practical pedagogy together in one resource perfect for home or school. The book includes extension activities for the classroom, historical references, pedagogical indices and suggestions for including the songs in a literacy-based music curriculum.

Melody and lyrics are given for each song. The online audio tracks feature Inner Voices, a group of singers 8 - 12 years old from The West Texas Children's Chorus. First, We Sing! also contains suggestions for Orff instruments and recorder, along with seasonal and holiday songs, singing games and songs just for fun. Ideally suited for teaching musical skills, this collection provides a "vocabulary" of music and play from which children can draw today.
