Had a Little Rooster (Book)

Had a Little Rooster, adapted to storybook form by renowned educator John Feierabend and exquisitely illustrated by  Jamie-Lynn Morrow, is filled with lyrics from the children's songtale.

Had a Little Rooster is a cumulative song that has been shared and sung for more than 100 years, with each verse introducing a new character and a new sound that must be added to the previous verse, making each verse longer and longer. Cumulative songs are fun to sing, as they require singers to use more and more breath, and challenge them to remember an ever-increasing cast of characters and sounds.

Like the other picture books in John M. Feierabend's First Steps in Music series, Had a Little Rooster includes a description of the history of the song, the notation of the song, and a link to download the song in audio form at no cost. Had a Little Rooster was added in 2019.
