FAQ

General Information

What types of lessons does West Music offer?

We offer private and group lessons for a variety of instruments, including piano, guitar, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion, and voice.

Where are lessons held?

Lessons take place at our West Music locations, including Coralville, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Davenport , and online for select instruments and instructors.

How long is a typical lesson?

Private lessons are typically 30, 45, or 60 minutes long. Group lesson durations may vary.

Registration & Scheduling

How do I sign up for lessons?

You can register online, by phone, or in person at any West Music location. Our team will help match you with an instructor based on your skill level and availability.

Can I start lessons at any time?

Yes! Enrollment is open year-round, subject to instructor availability.

What happens if I miss a lesson?

There will be no make-up or refunds for lessons. Due to schedules accommodating other students, our teachers will be unable to reschedule or provide "make up" lessons for any missed lessons. Inability to attend a lesson on a student’s part does not excuse tuition payment.

Pricing & Discounts

How much do lessons cost?

Lesson pricing varies based on the instructor, location, and lesson length. Contact your local West Music for current rates.

Are there any discounts available?

Yes! We offer a 10% discount (up to $100) on lessons year-round.

Billing and Registration

How does billing work?

All students will be billed through Opus1.io. Billing takes place on the 1st of the month, and if payment is not received by the 2nd week, we reserve the right to stop lessons until payment is taken.

What is the registration fee?

Our registration fee is $24.95, which is a one-time payment collected when setting up and continuing lessons. If a student cancels lessons altogether, West Music provides 120 days to re-register, and we will waive the lesson registration fee. After 120 days, they will be responsible for paying the registration fee again.

Are there any fees for multiple students in a family?

Yes, each student must pay an individual registration fee.

Lesson Make-ups for Student Cancellation

What if I need to cancel my lesson?

Students may cancel lessons at any time but must provide a 30-day notice to the store manager or studio coordinator. Partial refunds will not be given for remaining lessons if the student chooses not to finish out the 30 days.

Holidays and Weather

Are there scheduled breaks?

The store will be closed for lessons three times each year: the week of the 4th of July, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Teachers may also take one floating holiday per year. These lessons are not credited.

What happens if lessons are canceled due to weather?

Weather cancellations will be announced via text and email. If a lesson day is canceled once, no credit will be issued. If multiple lessons are canceled in a month, a credit will be issued for the second canceled lesson.

Billing Credits for Teacher Cancellation

What if my teacher cancels a lesson?

Students will receive a billing credit of 25% of their monthly bill for each lesson a teacher cancels in a month. This credit will be applied automatically toward the student's next invoice.

Summer Lesson Schedule

Can I take a break from lessons during the summer?

Yes, students can take a break for summer lessons and avoid the registration fee if they resume within 120 days. However, lesson times cannot be held.

Is there any credit for canceled summer lessons?

Between June 1 and August 31, students may receive a credit for up to four lessons they cancel in advance. This credit can only be applied to future billing and is non-refundable.

Discontinuing Lessons

Can a teacher discontinue my lessons?

Yes, teachers reserve the right to stop lessons for any reason, including lack of practice or consistent tardiness.

Additional Lesson Materials and Recitals

Are there additional activities or costs?

Teachers may organize additional activities such as recitals, master classes, or require extra materials, which may involve additional fees. These costs will be communicated before the first lesson.

Are there any discounts on materials?

Yes, as a West Music student, you receive 10% off all product purchases (up to a maximum of $100 per transaction).
