Now's The Time: Teaching Jazz To All Ages
Description
Now's the Time: Teaching Jazz to All Ages
By Doug Goodkin
Book
341 pages
A series of lessons on jazz, via the Orff Schulwerk approach. Not specifically a curriculum, though it presents a logical sequence that could be used as such. Includes 68 activities and arrangements for Orff instruments as well as essential theory and some key historical and cultural background. Combining theory and practice, the book includes a developmental sequence for children between 3 and 14 years old applicable to beginners of all ages. It also includes a Middle School jazz curriculum with sample student work. The author encourages teachers to use the book as a model of ideas and material, and then adapt to fit their own teaching situation. A summary of the practical material is given at the end of the book.
