Songs and Stories Together

Songs and Stories Together connects songs to stories and classical music using singing, moving, listening, and playing classroom instruments to build music skills. Each song includes activities for teaching the song, a story, and classical music relating to the story. The activities teach singing and steady beat as well as engage the children's minds, bodies and imaginations. Other skills such as visual, spatial, aural, verbal, kinesthetic, interpersonal and intrapersonal are also addressed.

Through all these activities, children are exposed to good quality music and literature. Many of the storybooks used are found on our West Music website. The listings for the classical music resources are very specific, so you can check to see if you already have them in your collection. Percussion instruments such as finger cymbals, triangles, sticks, resonator bells, xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels can be used. There are also opportunities to use scarves and a few other props.
