What to Teach When is a thoughtful and engaging music curriculum by Don Dupont and Brian Hiller. Following an elemental approach, the curriculum for What to Teach When K-1 targets developmentally appropriate skills that every kindergarten and first grade student should master in the areas of melody, rhythm, form, timbre, and texture.
The lessons and repertoire have been carefully selected and sequenced so that concepts are spiraled and built upon with each new piece. Samples of fully processed lesson plans and assessments are included at the end of each grade-level section. Brian and Don have also provided all of their visual aids used in teaching these pieces.
