Bastien Piano Basics: Technic - Level 1

Bastien Piano Basics is a progressive, pedagogically sound, and easy to follow complete piano curriculum. The series is paced gradually, so that beginning students are successful al understanding musical concepts. Each level of this series contains four correlated method books:

• Piano is the main lesson book in the Bastien Piano Basics series. In the Piano books, key concepts are introduced with stimulating melodies and exercises. Fun, full-color illustration help to reinforce musical ideas. 
• Theory is the workbook portion of the series. Each book contains written exercises, short pieces, games, and puzzles to make learning fun!
• Performance is the solo collection of the series. Each book includes a variety of folk songs, original tunes, and pop styles to keep students engaged.
• Technic is the technical development portion of the series. These books include warm-ups and exercises to build pianistic technique.

Level 1 begins with a review of the primer level along with simple tunes in C position. In this level students begin to play single notes in parallel octaves between right and left hands. Other concepts of Level 1 are: 5-finger melodies in F and G Major, tonic and dominant chords, lines and spaces note-reading in treble and bass clef, damper pedal, eighth notes, dotted quarter notes.
